Simple Dos & Dont's For Using Hashtags
Does this sound like you?
You craft the most amazing post for the ‘gram and have this feeling inside that it’s gonna BLOW up. Double taps rollin’ in. Comments exploding. You’re squealing inside.
Then you remember the hashtags. So you slap a few hashtags at the bottom of your post and wait.
And wait.
“Where the F are my likes? I used hashtags...ohmygawd, am I shadowbanned?”
I feel ya, girl. So let me give you a quick lesson on those little waffle looking things before you have a breakdown.
Hashtags are the dewey decimal system of Instagram - it’s how Instagram catalogs similar topics and pictures. But most importantly, hashtags are how you expand your reach & get more 👀 on your pics. Every hashtag is an opportunity to be seen & connect with a human who gets you.
𝗗𝗼: Use specific hashtags related to the picture and the PERSON you want to see it. If I want to connect with moms who like to twin with their babes, I’m going to use #twinningtuesday #twinningwithmommy and similar ones.
𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁: Use general hashtags like #cute, #happy, #love. A gazillion other people have used those hashtags so your chances of being seen are 0.
𝗗𝗼: Use niched-down, smaller hashtags that your ideal follower/client may be searching. If you’re looking for clients to join your fitness bootcamp, you want to use hashtags they may be searching - like #PaleoRecipes or #FatBurningWorkout
𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁: Use your company’s hashtags. Ex: if you’re a Beachbody Coach, don’t use #Energize because your ideal client doesn’t know Energize exists. The only people using that hashtag are current customers and coaches - so they ain’t gonna buy from you. Instead, use #TiredMama cause that’s someone who needs what you have. 😉
𝗗𝗼: Put hashtags in the comments
𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁: Waste your valuable caption space on hashtags. You can only use 2200 characters in an IG post, so make em worth it.
