TED Talk: Every Child Deserves A Champion

About a year ago I came across an inspiring quote that I loved so much that I saved it and eventually turned it into an image:

Then last week, I received a link to this TED Talk from my friend and co-worker, an elementary assistant principal with such dedication to her own learning, her teachers’ learning, and their students’ learning, that I knew something incredibly powerful was waiting for me.

Low and behold, my beloved quote derived from this inspiring TED Talk and I quickly fell in love with Rita Pierson all over again. I immediately tried to locate her on social media, but my friend sadly informed me that Rita Pierson passed away last year.

Rita’s words will continue to touch many lives and I encourage you to take the time to listen to her message.

“And I gave them a saying to say: ‘I am somebody when I came. I’ll be a better somebody when I leave. I am powerful, and I am strong. I deserve the education that I get here. I have things to do, people to impress, and places to go.’”
